Vinyl lettering is cut out from vinyl sheets using a plotter. The cutouts are then transferred onto the signs. A large variety of colours, high grade vinyl sheets, good durability and cost effectiveness make vinyl lettering one of the most used inscripting methods.

Used for the inscription on signs, automobiles and shop windows, the vinyl lettering is ideal for short to middle term application. According to the manufacturers, vinyl lettering has a life span of about five years. Depending on the extent of its exposure to the elements and other factors, it can last longer or less.

Updating or changing vinyl lettering is possible - easily and at a low cost. Depending on the base, there may be a shadow left over after removal of the vinyl lettering. Vinyl lettering protects the base, the material around the lettering ages and changes colour or appearance with time. Once removed, the previously lettered areas are visible as "shadows". This effect is most commonly visible on automobiles and on natural surfaces, such as wood.
